Olivia Nicholls is closing on a place in the world's top 300 women's doubles players after more success.

The 23-year-old Norfolk number one has reached a career-high global doubles ranking of 313, rising from 460 at the end of last year, following two title successes in the ITF $25,000 Obidos outdoor series at the Bom Sucesso Tennis Academy in Portugal.

Nicholls, from Acle, and fellow British player Sarah Beth Gray beat Andrea Ka and Ines Murta – who had knocked out the top seeds – 6-4 6-3 to reach the final, where they beat third seeds Jessika Ponchet of France and Ganna Poznikhirenko of Ukraine 6-2 6-1.

That followed success the previous week when they beat top seeds An-Sophie Mestach of Belgium and Nina Stojanovic of Serbia 4-6 7-6(4) 10-6.

For Nicholls it follows up similar success in Israel in March, winning doubles titles with Alicia Barnett at the $15,000 Ramat Hasharon and Tel Aviv outdoor tournaments.
