It was the turn of the mixed pairs to take to the greens at the Great Yarmouth bowls festival yesterday.
The Great Yarmouth Independent Newsagents-sponsored competition is played in a league format of 20 leagues of four teams, with the winners going forward with the 12 best runners-up. Last year's winners P and H Wilkinson won one game and lost the other two so failed to qualify - as did their opponents in last year's final R Nichols and N Benns, who lost two and won one after scoring a full house of eight shots in the game they won.
Singles winner John Tufts, playing with his sister Lucy, qualified, winning two games and losing one. A and Z Roberts of the Freethorpe bowls club and J Watson and G Hewitt from Martham qualified winning all their games.
