King's Lynn rider Matthew Senter scored his third win in a row in Norfolk open time trials when he added the Norwich ABC 10 to the recent East District 10 and 25 mile Championships.
Senter covered the Redenhall-Bungay and back Waveney Valley course in 20:26, 15 seconds faster than his VeloVelocity team-mate Daniel Bloy (20:41).
Third spot went to young Wickham Market roadman Lyster Romero in 20:53.
Crosswind conditions meant that the day was never going to be fast, but the Veterans had a close battle, with 56-year-old Bob Watson (21:28) beating his standard as a 56 year-old by 5:46 to win the prize from Chris Nudds (aged 68), whose 23:18 yielded a 'plus' of 5:24, just ahead of 84-year-old Len Benton (26:00), plus 5:17.
Denise Hurren (Sole Bay Sport) kept the top women's prize in local hands with her 24:10, keeping 22 seconds in hand over second-placed Rachel Holman.
There was a crosswind in the Eastern Counties CA 25 on the Larling-Wymondham course where Lyster Romero stepped up to second spot with 53:33, but the top place went to Rob Young (Team Vision, 51:23).
The crosswind was said to be swirling, though the road changes direction more than is obvious to the eye of a competitor and maybe it was the road rather than the wind that swirled.
Tommy Power (Strada Sport) and Tom Fitzpatrick (unattached) were among 11 riders who fought out the finish sprint in the Peterborough CC Road Race for high category riders.
The winner was Alex Dalton (Catford CC), with Power in second position and Kenninghall rider Fitzpatrick coming home in third.
Top finisher from Fitzpatrick's erstwhile team-mates in the Spirit Tifiosi team was Oliver Barberi, who finished in 10th place.
A crosswind on this circuit on the edge of the Fens might have helped break up the race further, but there were few places where competitors really felt the effects.
This Friday the Gasp up Gas Hill will bring crowds to the one-in-four climb up from the Riverside Road/Bishop Bridge junction in Norwich.
This spectator-friendly match-racing event – which is part of the Lord Mayor's celebrations – kicks off at 7pm.
