Norfolk will stage its first ever floodlit cup final and county match in August.

Vauxhall Mallards are holding a week of cricket under lights at their Brundall ground which will include a 40-over Minor County Challenge match between Norfolk and Suffolk on Wednesday, August 22 and the Stan Biss Trophy final, on Sunday, August 26.

Brundall has staged floodlit cricket before, with club tournaments in 2000 and 2001, but this event promises to be by far the biggest yet.

Mallards chairman Roger Finney said: "It was extremely successful last time and people have been badgering us to do it again. Obviously the 20/20 concept has moved on and Horsford are running that tournament, but we felt there was still room for a special event like this in the calendar.

"We have the experience of the previous two events under our belts. The first year was very much suck it and see, but the second time we got the lights right and this time, thanks to sponsorship from Smith and Pinching, the lights are going to be even better.

"That gives us the confidence that a full blown game of cricket can easily be played under them so we decided to hold the final of the Biss Trophy under lights for the first time. We also felt that having the county involvement was an essential part of the mix."

The temporary lights will be similar to those used at county grounds which do not have permanent floodlights and will be positioned around the ground.

There will be under-13 matches played on Monday, August 20 and Tuesday, August 21 involving Swardeston, Topcroft, Mallards and Hales. There will also be senior club 20/20 games on the Thursday and Friday, with Mallards, Swardeston, Norwich and Great Witchingham taking part.

All matches will start at 4.45pm, apart from the 50-over Biss final, which starts at 2.45pm.

Finney added: "We see it as a chance to give local players the experience of playing under lights and it is also a fundraiser for Vauxhall Mallards. Any money we make will be ploughed back into the facilities and the club. The support last time was excellent and obviously we are keen for people to come and support it again."
