With both sides in the relegation zone this was a must-win game for Lowestoft & Yarmouth and Norwich.

However, the first half ended without any score as, although they dominated the first 20 and last 10 minutes of the half, Norwich spurned kickable penalties into the wind and the stout Lowestoft & Yarmouth defence rebuffed their running attacks.

An excellent kick from Beaird put the home team into the Norwich 22 and it was the turn of Norwich's defence to frustrate the home side's attacks.

The crowd became excited at the beginning of the second half when Beaird showed great skill in returning a Norwich kick, which he followed up and caught, just failing to cross the Norwich line. However, following his penalty kick from the touchline, which hit the upright, a fumbled Norwich clearance led to Howe scoring a try to put the home side into a 5-0 lead after Tueti failed with the conversion attempt.

Five minutes later another penalty kick hit the Norwich upright, but this time they were able to clear the ball upfield and five minutes later Rob Micklethwaite reduced the lead to two points with his first penalty kick at goal in the match from the 10m line.

Lowestoft & Yarmouth came back into the game when the restart kick was unclaimed and after exerting considerable pressure on the Norwich line Tueti scored a try under the posts which he converted to take the score to 12-3.

Norwich rallied and finally started to put their game plan together. After 28 minutes Jack Acorn scored a try in the corner that took the score to 12-8 as Micklethwaite was unable to kick the conversion. A further penalty attempt by him five minutes later drifted wide of the Lowestoft & Yarmouth posts.

With just two minutes to go Norwich launched a final attack as the home team tired and slick handling put Rob Micklethwaite over in the corner to give them a slender one-point lead. Micklethwaite's conversion kick also hit the post.

This was the closely fought game that everyone associated with the clubs expected and Norwich will be relieved they gained four points whilst Lowestoft & Yarmouth will be disappointed they gained only a losing bonus point for their efforts.
