Wroxham are breathing a sigh of relief after being handed their second relegation reprieve in three seasons, writes Gavin Caney.

The Ryman League Division One North Yachtsmen finished in the bottom three last season – just like they did under the management of Pawel Guziejko in 2013/14. But once again they have been spared the drop as a result of the FA’s Leagues Committee annual allocation process.

Following this afternoon’s meeting to determine the make-up of the top four tiers of the non-league pyramid for 2016/17, Wroxham were informed their place at Step Four had not been lost despite their disappointing season.

Manager Damian Hilton, who took over from Stewart Larter towards the back end of the campaign, told his club’s website: “We always knew there was a chance that only two teams would go down from the Ryman League (Division One North).

“Until you get confirmation then it leaves things a little up in the air but it’s great news for everyone involved with the club. We all know we underachieved last season but myself and the players are all determined to put things right come August.”

The FA’s decision to spare the Yachtsmen sets up six tasty Norfolk derbies at that level next term with Norwich United, Hilton’s former club, joining Wroxham and Dereham Town in that division. United gained promotion by winning the Thurlow Nunn League Premier Division.

At Step Three, King’s Lynn Town will not endure another sideways switch like this time last year and shall remain in the Southern League Premier Division. Joining them at that tier are relegated National League North Lowestoft Town. They have been placed in the Ryman Premier Division.
