Lowestoft Town provided the opposition for Dorking Wanderers' very last competitive game at their very picturesque Westhumble ground before they move to a brand new venue for next season.
The Wanderers celebrated the occasion by giving free entry to everyone and then made it a day to remember for their supporters with an eight-goal thrashing of the Trawlerboys.
Dale Brooks was again hit by the unavailability of senior players and his original planning was soon disrupted when young James Langdale pulled up after just 11 minutes to be replaced by Cion Wren.
Dorking were putting in some searching crosses from the wings and had gone close when Travis Cole had to clear a header from Dean Hamblin off the line before they took the lead in the 16th minute.
Sam Beard's cross from the right saw Dan Pearse head back across goal and in off the far post.
Dorking doubled their lead in the 22nd minute with a goal that would have beaten anyone at any level. Pearse again was the scorer and he surprised everyone by letting fly with a rocket from fully 30 yards that screamed into the top corner of the net.
Lowestoft were not out of it at this stage and rued their luck as Shaun Bammant was ruled offside as he converted a cross from Mani Machaya.
The game was effectively killed by two goals in a matter of seconds either side of the break. In the final minute of the first half Dan Walker broke down the right to set up a close range finish for Tom Tolfrey for Dorking's third. Straight from the start of the second half Daniel Walker added the fourth with a tremendous strike from the corner of the penalty area.
Those two quick goals knocked the stuffing out of the Trawlerboys and there was little left in the tank after Lewis Taylor skipped through the defence to add the fifth in the 56th minute.
The effects of a very tough month both physically and mentally came home to roost in the final quarter as Dorking added a further three goals to record their biggest Bostik League Premier Division victory.
Following the end of the game Dale Brooks praised and thanked the players, staff and supporters, particularly the 50 plus who travelled to Dorking, for sticking together at a very tough time for the club.
