Billericay may be on the verge of the Ryman League Premier Division title but Lowestoft Town are not about to hand it to them on a plate, according to Blues striker Michael Frew.

Thanks to an impressive goal difference the Essex side need just a point from their remaining two games, one of which is against the Trawlerboys, to seal promotion.

However, if Billericay lose at Margate today then Lowestoft could have the chance of a winner-takes-all clash on the final day of the season next weekend. Lowestoft must take care of business first today at home to Hastings (kick-off 3pm) before their game in hand at Cray Wanderers on Tuesday night and Frew revealed the Blues squad are desperate to take the title race to the last day.

'We've obviously got to make sure we finish as high as we can as even second or third means home advantage in the play-offs,' he said. 'But Billericay haven't won it yet. If they lose their next game and we win our next two then it will all go down to the last game. It's theirs to lose but we've just got to try and keep on their tail.

'If we could get to the stage where it all hangs on that last game then we would be absolutely delighted.'

Frew's wonder-strike last weekend rescued three crucial points at home to Carshalton Athletic last weekend despite being down to 10 men following Nathan Stone's dismissal.

Frew, who has had a watching brief from the substitutes' bench in recent weeks, was delighted to play his part and hopes his goal serves as a reminder to the management team of what he can bring to the side in the remaining games.

'Everyone wants to play – we've got a very strong squad and we're all fighting for our places,' he said. 'I want to play every week if I can, ideally up front, but as I said we've got a lot of very good players in this squad and you can only name 11.'

Frew believes the Blues will look upon their 3-2 win on Easter Monday against Suffolk rivals Bury Town as the turning point in their season.

'Derby games everyone gets up – it's a different type of game. It was a massive win and we brought that confidence into the Carshalton game.

'Hopefully, we can carry that confidence through with us for the rest of the season.'

Lowestoft will be without skipper Greg Crane this afternoon as he serves the final game of his two-match suspension whilst Erkan Okay is also out after his red card against Kingstonian last month.
