Lowestoft Town skipper Dan Gleeson is a major injury concern ahead of the Blues' trip to Canvey Island this evening, kick-off 7.45pm.

The 28-year-old had to be substituted at half-time during the Trawlerboys' win against Bognor Regis on Saturday due to a hip problem and is unlikely to start against the Essex outfit this evening.

Gleeson is joined by Curtley Williams (knee) and Curtis Haynes-Brown (Achilles) on the sidelines and joint boss Ady Gallagher admitted his side's resources are being tested even at this early stage of the campaign.

'Dan is struggling, which is a blow and we are going to have to wait and see on him,' said Gallagher, whose side have brushed off defeat on the opening day at Dulwich to register consecutive victories.

'We've already lost Curtley and Curtis due to minor niggles but this is why you have a squad.

'You're going to get aches and pains through the course of the season and that's when you look to the players that come in to step in and take their chance.

'We're still hoping to add a couple more faces to thicken up the squad a bit but we're always confident in the boys we put out.'

One option for the Blues management would be to use Jack Ainsley at right back despite the youngster showing his goalscoring prowess at Crown Meadow since his move from Ipswich Town this summer.

Ainsley played at right back in the Championship for Ipswich last season and filled in there on Saturday for Lowestoft when Gleeson was withdrawn.

'Jack filled in there great and if you're going to fill in with someone who was playing right back in the Championship last season then it's not too bad,' added Gallagher. 'He's a goal threat as well as we have seen but that is just one option that's open to us.'

This evening's match sees an early return to their former club for Bradley Woods-Garness and Ashlee Jones who left the Gulls to join Lowestoft in the close season.

Gallagher is expecting another tough assignment for his men as they go looking for their first win away from home this season.

'They were a good side last season and they have obviously changed their managers around since last year,' added Gallagher.

'It will be difficult for Bradley and Ashlee to go back as it always is for former players but they will be more than able to cope.

'The main thing for us is that we're going there on the back of two clean sheets.

'We are pleased with the effort of the boys so far this season but clearly there's a long, long way to go.'
