Lowestoft Town earned another invaluable point with a superb display away to play-off chasing Hendon on Saturday.

Admittedly it was a mainly defensive display but they still showed attacking enterprise at times and caused their hosts many problems.

With Dan Humphries returning to Southend, Harry Barker returned to the starting line up in the right back role in an otherwise unchanged side.

Lowestoft were first to threaten in the opening minutes with Robert Eagle and Harvey Hodd combining down the right but Jake Reed could only stab wide from the cross. The highly-rated Nico Muir cut inside along the bye line but his driven cross was held by Ben Dudzinski.

Lowestoft took the lead in the ninth minute. Harvey Hodd intercepted a square Hendon pass just inside the Lowestoft half and raced forward before timing a superb ball into the path of Reed, who took the ball forward and slotted past the advancing Tom Lovelock.

Naturally Hendon were keen to get back on even terms and Muir created a clear opening for Sam Murphy who shot across the face of goal but wide of the upright. Zak Joseph was next to threaten but after a surging run half the length of the pitch he too shot wide of the upright.

A Jacek Zielonka free kick was partially cleared but Eagle's shot from the loose ball went straight at Lovelock.

Dave Diedhiou had a great chance to level the scores with just Dudzinski to beat but the Trawlerboys' keeper produced an excellent save. In the final minute of the first half Dudzinski's punched clearance was volleyed back at goal by Arthur Lee but cleared off the line by Barker.

Hendon started the second half strongly looking to quickly get back on terms and the equaliser duly arrived in the 63rd minute.

Joseph cut in from the right and held off a couple of tackles before drilling the ball into the bottom corner of the net from the edge of the penalty area.

The Greens were close to adding a second within four minutes as Diedhiou drilled in a vicious effort from distance which produced an outstanding save from Dudzinski. The Town keeper then excelled again with a low save from Casey Maclaren.

It was not purely a defensive show in the second half though and as the game reached the closing minutes it was Lowestoft on the attack with Lovelock saving headers from both Reed and Bammant and using his legs to deny Eagle a late winner.
