Lowestoft Town 1 Kingstonian 1

Lowestoft Town were left to rue a number of gilt-edged chances at Crown Meadow as Kingstonian stole a point.

The Blues hit the front early on thanks to a composed finish by Joe Francis but were pegged back before half-time through Bashiru Alimi's close-range strike to leave the Trawlerboys without a win in six games.

But it would have been a totally different story had Lowestoft brought their shooting boots with them as Dale Cockrill, Michael Frew and Jamie Forshaw all spurned golden opportunities to give their side a much needed victory.

It could have been worse for Lowestoft in stoppage time when dangerman Bobby Traynor went through on goal but his effort thundered against the crossbar.

Lowestoft should have been in front as early as the second minute when Cockrill had the freedom of the six-yard area but got his header all wrong, allowing K's goalkeeper Rob Tolfrey to easily tip over.

But they got their noses in front when K's defender Adam Thompson miscued a clearance. Suddenly Francis was through and he kept his cool to slot under Tolfrey.

Tolfrey did well to get down to a Cockrill 20-yard drive and then Andrew Cave-Brown had a great chance to double the Trawlerboys' money but blazed over.

The misses would come back to haunt Lowestoft and just before the half-hour mark Kingstonian were level. Maurice Harkin jinked in from the right flank before sending over a cross which Traynor nodded goalwards but Andy Reynolds produced a fantastic save. However, Alimi was on hand to bundle the ball home and throw his side a lifeline.

Lowestoft got back in the ascendancy while Kingstonian were happy to play on the break and it almost paid off in the 63rd minute when Traynor cut in from the left flank. Fortunately for the Blues, Crane was on hand to make an excellent block and stop what looked a certain goal.

Jamie Forshaw came on as a late substitute and should have got the winner after being put through on goal by Matt Nolan – but his attempted lob comfortably cleared the bar.
