Lowestoft Town striker Chris Henderson is once again hoping to be the scourge of his former club Bury Town this evening.

The forward bagged a brace at Portman Road as the Trawlerboys saw off Bury in the Suffolk Premier Cup final and he is ready to plot their downfall again at Ram Meadow tonight, should the pitch pass a 2pm pitch inspection.

Henderson knows he will be in for a hot reception from the fans that used to cheer him before his move to Crown Meadow in the summer of 2011.

However, he insists the taunts will only serve to inspire him as the Blues look to kickstart their season following three successive postponements.

'They gave me a lot of stick in the final at Portman Road (in the cup final) – I remember hearing a chant about me and it wasn't the nicest one!' said Henderson, who has since seen Danny Cunningham and Lee Smith also cross the divide. 'Sometimes it's all you need to get you going – I scored a couple of goals. If they knew how much it made me up my game then I think they would keep quiet.

'I don't really mind getting the stick but since I've joined there has been another two that have joined. I had a good time there and the fans always liked me. It's only the fact I joined Lowestoft that has changed that.'

Games between Bury and Lowestoft are not normally for the fainthearted – Lowestoft ran out 3-2 winners at Ram Meadow last season after the home side had two players sent off. Henderson is expecting to have another battle on his hands.

'It's a huge game for us – they are always going to be up for it and there are always some fireworks when we play them,' he added. 'Even when I was there we did up our game against Lowestoft. We always considered that the big one. But the most important thing is that we win – we can't afford to let the teams above us get any further in front.'

Saturday's postponement against Cray has left Lowestoft 16 points off league leaders Whitehawk with five games in hand. Henderson admitted the situation is far from ideal but believes they have already shown they can beat the best the division has to offer.

'It has been frustrating and we're going to be playing catch-up but we know that we can beat anyone really,' he said. 'Earlier in the season we went away to Whitehawk and won the game really comfortably. We went to Wealdstone in the FA Cup and it was probably the most one-sided game I have played in this season. When it comes the schedule that we're going to face then it can become a strain on the squad. You've got to be pretty lucky with injuries and suspensions to get everyone going. It is a little bit worrying but there's nothing we can do about it.'

Although Henderson prefers to play centrally, he is likely to be deployed out wide this evening, if the Ram Meadow pitch can beat the weather.

Lee Smith has been the one playing just off central striker Jack Defty with Henderson coming in off either flank. 'I make no secret that I prefer to play up front with Jack,' he said. 'I started the season playing up front with him and I thought we hit it off really well. Flem (Craig Fleming) knows I enjoy playing up there but they do like what I can do on the wing which is a compliment.'
