Halesowen 4, King's Lynn 1: King's Lynn produced their worst performance of the season so far to slump to a hugely disappointing defeat at mid-table Halesowen in the Southern League Premier Division last night.

The Linnets went into the final 30 minutes on level terms, but three late goals condemned them to only their second defeat of the campaign. The in-form Linnets were looking to continue their run of good results at The Grove, following on from last year's success in both league and cup - but the Yeltz looked the better side in the opening period and Chapman made a great saving tackle to deny Denny. A promising Lynn passing move then broke down and Wright and Williams broke quickly down the right flank, the latter bringing a fine save out of Scott Howie, with Charlie Defty completing the clearance.

On 43 minutes Mark Warren was penalised for holding down Wright and referee Sinclair pointed to the penalty spot. After lengthy Lynn protests Paul beat Howie with a fierce drive to the keeper's right to make it 1-0 at the interval.

Lynn equalised almost straight from the kick-off when Danny Bloomfield's effort forced a desperate clearance from Halesowen captain Nick Amos, but the linesman ruled that the ball had crossed the line.

Halesowen restored their lead on 62 minutes when Wright outpaced Warren and slipped the ball through the legs of the advancing Howie.

On 70 minutes, an error by Warren enabled Halesowen to go further ahead, when McDonald fed the ball to Wright, who broke through on his own to easily beat Howie.

Warren limped off injured to be replaced by Greg Crane and, in the 90th minute, Lynn's misery was compounded when, after Paul had been brought down, Liam McDonald curled the free-kick past the outstretched palms of the diving Howie.
