The 22-year-old welterweight produced a stunning finish to leave Yadollah Ghasemi on the canvas inside three rounds in front of a noisy home crowd at The Halls.

Goddard had looked more than accomplished from the opening bell as he took the fight to the man from Birmingham.

Having worked out his opponent in the opening round, the southpaw laid down the law in the second, nervelessly going about his business before putting Ghasemi on the canvas for the first time.

In the third Goddard seized his moment with a ferocious attack that Ghasemi somehow survived – until Goddard moved in again, with a left and then a fight-finishing right that sent Ghasemi tumbling, leaving referee Lee Cook with the formality of stopping the fight.

Goddard was something of a silver lining to the evening, given the loss of the main event, the appearance of cruiserweight Iain Martell, who ran out of scheduled opponents who dropped out one by one during the week.

Wisbech's Joe Steed made it three wins from three outings, with a 40:37 decision over tough Bulgarian Iliyan Markov.

The visiting boxer took some of Steed's best shots, and produced a few of his own, but neither man gave an inch.

Connor Vian produced one of his best performances to stop Midlander MJ Hall in the sixth and final round. Vian had lost his last outing but with the pressure of defending an unbeaten record lifted, he looked more composed and was on top throughout, the early finish thoroughly deserved.
