CHRIS LAKEY
City keeper Joe Lewis spent Saturday night in hospital after suffering face and shoulder injuries while on duty for League Two side Morecambe.
The 20-year-old, on loan at until the end of the year, was involved in a sickening collision with Chris O'Grady during the 3-1 defeat at Rotherham on Saturday. Lewis had been left stranded by a poor back pass and as he went to head it clear he was struck full in the face by the head of O'Grady, who was making a genuine challenge for the ball.
Both players remained prone for several minutes as paramedics with stretchers went on to the pitch. Lewis left the pitch strapped to a stretcher after a full seven minutes of treatment. He suffered a serious gash to his face and it is believed he may also have fractured his collarbone.
