Norwich City goalkeeper Joe Lewis was today reported to be thinking over a shock £400,000 move to Peterborough United.

The 20-year-old 'keeper was recalled from his loan spell at Morecambe to Carrow Road by boss Glenn Roeder, who said he was keen to have the England Under-21 squad player back at Colney.

Roeder said Lewis would have been on the substitutes' bench at Crystal Palace on New Year's Day but for a bout of illness.

But just two days later, the signs are that he could be moving on.

Lewis made his final Morecambe appearance against Posh on Saturday.

Peterborough director of football Barry Fry revealed on TV this week that he expected Posh to break the club transfer record during the January transfer window.

The current record fee paid by Posh is £350,000 to Walsall for midfielder Martin O'Connor when Fry was manager in 1996.

Morecambe boss Sammy McIlroy appeared to confirm the potential move when he said: “I spoke to the lad (Lewis) last night and he told me he was thinking about it - and you can't blame him.

“I knew Peterborough were interested in him and we did put a bid in for him. But we can't compete with £400,000. I am surprised with the move, though.”

If Lewis signs, he could play in Saturday's FA Cup tie at Colchester.

Posh were today understood to have agreed a fee with an unnamed player's club, leaving personal terms to be discussed.

Lewis has yet to play a first-team match for City, despite first appearing on the bench as a 15-year-old.
