Gary Setchell admitted his tired troops robbed a point off Gresley on Tuesday after a late comeback preserved their unbeaten home league record.

Lynn looked dead and buried after the visitors finally made their domination pay thanks to Rob Spencer's brace.

However, Russell Dunkley's header 20 minutes from time gave Lynn a chance to punish their Derbyshire opponents for being so wasteful in front of goal.

And they took it when Danny Beaumont's free-kick just about evaded everyone to find the back of the net to save his side from what had looked set to be a certain defeat.

Setchell said: 'We got out of jail. We were never in the game. We've got to accept teams in this league are playing very good football and we hung in the game by the skin of our teeth.

'We didn't deserve to be in the match. We couldn't get close to them. And that's all credit to Gresley. Our boys were trying, but we couldn't get near them. And when we did, and then got the ball, because we were working so hard we couldn't retain possession.

'For the first 70 minutes they must have had 70pc of the ball and there wasn't too much we could do about it because our passing was very sloppy. We looked very leggy. I know we've had a lot of hard games but so have a lot of other teams and it was worrying.

'Yet when we got the goal, which was a great header from Dunks, we then got a second wind and we could have even gone on to win the game, which would have been a massive injustice. We robbed a point and we could have robbed three.'

The Linnets boss refused to blame the delayed kick-off, moved back to 8pm due to Gresley's late arrival at The Walks, but conceded his team looked jaded after three weeks of matches on a Saturday and a Tuesday.

League leaders Coalville Town's shock 2-1 defeat at basement boys Lincoln United sees Setchell's men four points behind them in Evo-Stik Division One South – with a game in hand.

The Lynn boss is likely to ring the changes ahead of Saturday's home FA Trophy second qualifying round tie with Carshalton Athletic – with captain Richard Bunting almost certain to miss out after sustaining a nasty eye injury during Tuesday's draw.

Setchell said: 'We had a little heart to heart and the boys are out on their feet. 'We're just gagging for November to get here so we can go Saturday, Saturday, Saturday, Saturday for a week or two. We know we've got to improve, but we've only lost one game in 13 in the league this season, which is unbelievable.

'I'll change things around on Saturday and maybe I'll try and get someone else in. I need to try and freshen the squad up a little bit and get some extra legs in there.'

Lynn's next league game is at Loughborough on Tuesday. Fans can book seats – adults 12.50, U16s 5 – on the bus, which will leave The Walks at 4.30pm by calling 01553 766088.
