Monsoon rain made conditions more than a little tricky at the Adrian Flux Arena on Saturday night when the 2L Banger Tyre Bay/King's Abbey Taxis World Final took centre stage.

Indeed the fact that the event even took place was testament to the determination of the race officials and drivers and race teams who battled on in the horrendous conditions.

It was a fairytale race though for Norwich's Lee Clarke who was looking to become the first driver to successfully defend the title in its 30-plus year history. Clark made fantastic progress from his mid grid starting berth to be the race leader just before half way.

Throughout the rest of the race he was involved in a ding dong battle with Sid Cooper with each taking turns to take the advantage. The deciding moment in the race came with three laps to go when Cooper sailed into a pile up and Clarke was able to drive away and take the title. Swaffham's Ashley Garrod completed the big race in fifth place.

The 1300 Stock Cars saw a heat and final double for Kent's Tom Kepp with Norwich's Todd Payne having a good night with a trio of runner up finishes in his three races with Norwich's flying teenager racer Megan Petherick also getting a couple of top 10 finishes. Lee Ivatt took a heat and final double in the Junior Bangers with Ben Nicholls getting a runner up finish in the first heat.

Stock Car and Banger Racing returns to King's Lynn on Saturday, June 16 (5.30pm) when the annual 1500cc Banger East Anglian Teams, 2L Stock Cars and 1300 Stock Cars are all in action.

The 2L Stock Cars contested their National Championship at Cowdenbeath in Scotland over the weekend where a couple of our top drivers made the trip up. The weekend started off well for both Lee Sampson and Willie Skoyles when both recorded a heat win on the Saturday night. Sampson went on to finish in fourth place in the National Championship which was won by local favourite Graeme Shevill. Sampson also got on the podium in the Ray Gunn Memorial race with a fine third place finish.

Norwich F1 Star travelled to Buxton in the Peak District where a World Championship Qualifying Round was contested. Newson qualified for the final with an eighth place finish in his heat. He failed to finish the final but managed another eighth place finish in the Grand National. Paul Harrison won the meeting final.
