Stewart Larter insists his Wroxham side will be taking their season run-in one game at a time ahead of hosting league leaders Needham Market.

The play-off hopefuls currently sit fifth in Ryman North – occupying the final play-off position in a tight top half of the table – with Thurrock winning 2-0 at Heybridge Swifts yesterday to move to within just a point of the Yachtsmen.

And with only five games to play, Larter has made it clear they will not be looking any further than the game ahead of them, starting with the Suffolk-based table toppers this weekend.

'I've said this more than once and I know it's a bit of cliché but as a manager you have to look at just one game ahead of what you've got,' he said. 'There's so many permutations that you have to look at the next game and that's it.

'You can look at the fixtures on paper and say that one will be a stonewall three points, but it doesn't work like that in this league. In terms of being able to focus fully you and players available etcetera, you have to just look at the next game and we're doing that with Needham.'

Larter also believes his side has something to prove against Needham after their display last time out, where two early goals were their downfall as the automatic promotion hopefuls ran out comfortable 2-0 winners.

'I don't think we did ourselves justice last time out when we played at their place,' he conceded. 'If I have one criticism of us this year – and I've said this before – I don't think we've taken enough points off the teams around us.'
