It was a case of two United Counties League points dropped as Wisbech Town conceded a late equaliser in a 2-2 draw at Wellingborough Town, despite dominating the game, writes Spencer Larham.

Teenager Harry Limb gave the Fenmen an eighth-minute lead, beating Wellingborough keeper Aaron Bellairs to Michael Frew’s headed flick before scoring into the empty net.

Eight minutes later, Jon Fairweather was adjudged to have brought down Jack Wisniewski inside the area and was thankful that under the new regulations it warranted just a yellow card. Dan Spaughton scored with the resulting spot-kick, although Wisbech goalkeeper Ricky Lovelace nearly got a hand to it.

Two minutes before the break, Frew combined well with Billy Smith to set up a shot from the latter which Bellairs palmed away, but Limb was on hand to smash home the loose ball from the corner of the six-yard box.

The second half was one-way traffic as chance after chance fell to the Wisbech forwards, but poor finishing and some desperate defending meant the scoreline remained the same until the 86th minute when a Wellingborough free-kick wasn’t cleared properly, giving Jonny Hazell the chance to grab a somewhat undeserved equaliser for the home side with only their second shot on target.

Wisbech still had a couple of good chances to win the game, but the Doughboys held out for a share of the spoils.
