Hitchin Town are the team that stand between Gaven Tipple and his side creating FA Cup history at Kirkley & Pakefield.

The Royals will host the Southern League Premier Division outfit on Saturday, September 26 for a place in this season's third qualifying round after the Canaries won last night's replay against Peterborough Sports 4-2 after extra-time.

Tipple, who took over Thurlow Nunn Premier Division Kirkley in the summer, didn't need a second attempt at progressing to the next stage as they matched the club's best ever run in the competition by winning on Saturday. The Walmer Road club triumphed 2-1 at higher-level Beaconsfield SYCOB to reach the second qualifying round for the first time since 2009 – their finest foray in English football's greatest knockout event.

Sports, like Pakefield, were one of 368 teams that were forced to begin their 2015/16 adventure at the extra preliminary round stage.

Both had to win two matches before they could even land a draw against a team from Step Three, like Hitchin, of the semi-professional pyramid. The Canaries, who played Norwich City in a pre-season friendly, were expected to sweep aside Jimmy Dean's Step Six battlers from Peterborough at the weekend but could only draw 1-1.

King's Lynn Town were never close to avoiding a less seismic upset at the weekend as they crushed Wroxham 4-1. The Linnets' rewards for that routine victory was another home tie in the next round against Witham Town – who play in the same Ryman North set up as the side Gary Setchell's men disposed of at the weekend.

The visit of the outfit made famous by once having pop star turned X Factor presenter Olly Murs in their ranks is the 12th time on 15 occasions since Lynn were reformed that they have been handed home advantage.

Setchell told his club's website: 'I currently do not know to much about Witham at the moment, but over the next couple of weeks I will have them watched.

'It's also great for the supporters that we have another home tie to look forward to at The Walks.'

Witham were relegated from the Ryman Premier, the same level, as Lynn and Hitchin, last term and have struggled so far this campaign. Their finest moments have been saved for the FA Cup though where they've seen off league rivals Brightlingsea Regent, after a replay, and highly-rated Thurrock.

National League North Lowestoft Town were also in the hat for the latest draw at Wembley. They, like any team that gets through, will be just two more victories away from the first round proper – and a possible clash against a Football League side – if they beat Bognor Regis Town in just under a fortnight.

Unlike the Linnets, Lowestoft have endured miserable luck recently during the draw-making process. Their trip down south is an eighth consecutive away tie since 2011.

The draw
