Gary Setchell last night ended his quest to sign another striker by bringing former Wales Under-21 star Rob Duffy to King’s Lynn Town.

The Linnets boss has made no secret of his desire to add attacking options to his promoted squad following the summer departures of Russell Dunkley, Danny Beaumont and Ryan Robbins – who left without kicking a ball for the club.

And last night he finally got his man by convincing the 30-year-old to step into the part-game game for the first time and get his injury-hit career back on track.

Setchell said: “I played with Rob when he was a youngster at Rushden & Diamonds. I know he’s been sidelined with a dislocated ankle, and he’s a couple of weeks away from being ready, but when he gets fit he can be a real asset for us.

“He’s 6ft 3in, strong as an ox, and comes with a great pedigree. He’s another cut above what we have had as a target man. If he gets the right deliveries he will score goals.

“When I called I expected him to say ‘thanks but no thanks’ as although he’s had a lot of injuries he still had plenty of opportunities. But he wants to play part-time, study, and enjoy the last few years of his career as he can’t cope with the day to day demands of the pro game now.”

Duffy, who has also broken his kneecap during his playing days, was released by Skrill (Conference) Premier Lincoln City in April. His ex-clubs include Cambridge United, Grimsby Town, Mansfield Town and Oxford United – where he scored 19 goals in 39 appearances during 2006/07
