King’s Lynn Town powered to the top of the Evostik Southern League last night after cruising to a 4-0 win at Dunstable.

With morning leaders Kettering Town on FA Cup duty, goals from Ryan Hawkins, Michael Clunan, Sam Gaughran and Ryan Fryatt took the Linnets a point clear at the summit.

With ex-Canaries Grant Holt and Simon Lappin starting on the bench, the visitors took the lead on 27 minutes when Hawkins broke into the Dunstable box and lifted the ball over keeper Drew Ogden.

Clunan made it 2-0 five minutes after the break from the penalty spot after Gaughran had been brought down by Ogden and Gaughran’s back post header on 76 minutes made the points safe.

There was still time for Fryatt to nod home a free-kick from Lappin in the final minute to make it four. Lappin had entered the fray in the 63rd minute while Holt came on seven minutes earlier, after missing the win over Kings Langley through suspension.
