Penalty hero Jason Turner admits keeping King's Lynn Town's FA Cup dream alive on Saturday went some way to making up for his midweek spot-kick misery.

Turner smashed the ball home from 12 yards in the third minute of injury time at Daventry Town to make it 1-1 and force tonight's first qualifying round replay at The Walks.

The dramatic stoppage time penalty showed Turner's immense character as it came three days after he had fluffed his lines from the spot during a 0-0 league draw at home to Carlton Town.

The goal machined had netted 19 penalties in a row in Wellingborough and Lynn colours before his miss but insists he never doubted himself to find the back of the net at Daventry.

Turner said: 'The gaffer (Gary Setchell) said before the game that I was going to take it if we got a penalty which gave me a lot of confidence to be fair.

'I just did what I always do. I didn't get nervous. I put the ball on the spot and hit it. Once it went in I was relieved and I'll admit it did release a bit of frustration.

'Tuesday wasn't one of my finer nights in Lynn colours to be fair. I was a little bit down because I missed a couple of gilt-edged chances and a penalty and I'm in the team to score goals. So I was disappointed after the Carlton game.

'But the boys, to be fair to them, said 'get your head up, it happens' and thankfully I notched the equaliser in the last minute to get us a replay. We're just happy to be in the hat and hopefully we can finish the job tonight.'

Setchell was full of praise for his striker who is likely start for Lynn again tonight in Russell Dunkley's absence.

'I said to him before the game, 'you're on them (penalties) Turns',' said the Linnets boss.

'He hadn't missed one for five years and then he missed one on Tuesday. I said at the time international players miss them. On Saturday, he showed unbelievable bottle to smash it down the middle.

'He could have had egg on his face. I don't know how he would have felt if he had missed it in the last minute but he showed unbelievable character and that's the type of lad he is. He's a hard working lad who enjoys scoring goals.'

Dunkley came off the bench to win the header which led to the Linnets penalty at the weekend but will not be involved after suffering a 'slight set back' of a few days in his recovery from a calf problem. Defender Jordan Yong was rated as 50/50 after suffering a badly bruised foot but has this morning confirmed on Twitter he will miss the tie while defender Ross Watson is still suspended. Midfielder Dan Quigley returns from his two-game ban.

Setchell said: 'We're delighted to still be in the cup but it's not job done. We've got a massive job to do tonight and we've got some aching limbs in the dressing room. We need to regroup but we've got Quigley back from suspension which is a massive bonus and we'll go again.'

Darran Foster's Daventry will be without Nat Liburd and possibly weekend goalscorer Scott Cross after they both picked up injuries on Saturday.

The winner of this evening's replay, which will go to penalties if the scores are tied after 90 minutes and extra time, face a tough trip to Brackley Town in the next round.

Brackley (Blue Square North) play two levels higher than both sides. They top the table having won all of their seven matches this season.
