King's Lynn Town boss Gary Setchell has reaffirmed his faith in young keeper Alex Street.

Many expected that the 22-year-old would be shown the exit door this summer after spending periods of the last couple of seasons playing second fiddle to keepers like Danny Gay and Ashley Timms.

But Lynn's manager is promising the keeper, who is known as Pedro, a chance to make the number one shirt his own and is challenging the shot-stopper to grab the opportunity with both hands.

Setchell said: 'Me and Pedro have had our ups and downs over the last six years because I had him at Wisbech before we came to Lynn.

'He's 22 now, he's got to be a man and take responsibility of his actions away from the football club. He's got to get himself in tip-top shape, like i.e I'm on to him about being heavy.

'He's got to have a good summer and he's going to get first crack at it. There's no doubting about his ability.'

Street made 32 appearances for the Linnets last season and has 154 appearances to his name with The Walks outfit.

During that time he has spent loan periods at a number of clubs, including Wisbech, Spalding United and Leiston.

Setchell, who is still waiting to find out whether Andy Hall and David Bell will be staying at the club next season, added: 'People say: 'Pedro needs a coach', yet he's had coaching in the past.

'Either way he will have a goalkeeping coach this year to come in and work with him so that's positive.'
