King's Lynn Town hope a change of training venue will cut down on their expenditure next season.

Boss Gary Setchell has decided to move practice sessions away from Lynn to Peterborough, a near 70-mile round trip, to try and save on travelling expenses. Yet with more than half of his squad based away from the town the club call home, primarily in the Midlands, the call appears to be a sensible one financially.

Setchell said: 'One thing I've had to do this year is move training to Peterborough. Carl (Heggs) did that when he was here, he moved it to Leicester, and I've had to move it to Peterborough. Because not only have we not got the massive money that other clubs have got, we're probably the worst situated club in the Northern Premier League for players. It's very difficult for us.'

The need to reduce outlay came after chairman Buster Chapman pumped in his own funds to ensure Setchell's playing budget wasn't reduced last season. Diminishing gates – and no runs in the money-spinning FA competitions didn't help – so the Linnets' hierarchy are trying to take matters into their own hands.

Setchell, manager of a club that was reformed in 2010 after the original outfit went to the wall due to a five-figure unpaid tax bill, said: 'Me and the chairman have talked long and hard. I know for a fact he's put a lot of his own money in last year. He doesn't want to be doing that every year. We could go and spend loads of money and then go bust. But that ain't going to happen again.'
