King's Lynn Town boss Gary Setchell believes his men have the momentum to help them ruffle a few Evo-Stik Premier Division feathers this season.

The 'new' Lynn go into their maiden campaign at Step Three of the non-league ladder having recorded back-to-back promotions – the latter coming by virtue of a memorable title success.

The feel-good factor created from lifting the Division One South championship has continued long into the summer with the Linnets winning seven of their 10 pre-season matches.

Shane Tolley's sixth goal of the summer, in the fifth minute, was enough to record a 1-0 win at St Ives Town on Saturday in their final friendly. And now Setchell can't wait for the trip to Nantwich Town at the weekend as the Walks club return to the level that the 'old' outfit were at before they were wound up in the High Court.

'Our results last season made us noticed,' admitted Setchell.

'But if we lose our first three games we'll go very unnoticed. There's no two ways about that. But the season isn't going to be decided over the first three games. It's 42 matches. And for whatever reason, I know we work the boys hard, we do finish seasons strongly.

'We have done for the last three seasons and I don't expect anything different. We're not going to change too much. And we're looking forward to the challenge.

'If we secure a top-half finish this term it would be a real great effort. But I said that last year and look what happened. You never know in football.

'If you get that word that they use so often in sport, the momentum word, then who knows? We've got bags of that from last season and the season before, we've got bags of it coming towards the end of pre-season and you just don't know what can happen.'

Setchell's men came through their last warm-up match unscathed – but the Walks chief had to take extra caution due to a terrible playing surface at Westwood Road.

Dan Jacob (ankle), Steve Spriggs (Achilles), Jordan Yong (hamstring) and Sam Mulready (back) were all not risked due to the bobbly nature of the pitch.

The quartet will all be assessed this week – where Lynn will train twice – before Setchell picks his squad for Saturday's trip to Nantwich.
