King's Lynn Town fans were given a mouth-watering glimpse into the future at the weekend when four teenagers appeared among Gary Setchell's substitutes.

First-team regular Ryan Fryatt, 19, and new arrival Charlie Butt, 18, were joined by highly-rated reserve-team midfielders Shaun Stocker, 16 and Luke Biles, 19, on the bench at Gresley.

The quartet are recognised as some of West Norfolk's most promising youngsters and while only Butt came on it was another sign that Lynn's future will be in good hands for years to come.

Sought-after left-back Jordan Yong scored the Linnets' winner in a 2-1 victory and at the age of 22 is hardly a veteran of the non-league game.

However, he is also already being touted as a star of the future and Setchell admits he's excited about the youth – and local aspect to it – that is making its mark at The Walks.

He said: 'It was a glimpse to the future on the bench.

'They are local lads as well. We've got a sprinkling of them in and around the first team which is great.

'You've got Fryatt, we had (Sam) Mulready (on loan), and they've played regularly this year. Jordan Yong is from Wisbech.

'They aren't players being farmed in from all over. There was young Stocker, Biles, Beauy (Danny Beaumont) is localish and Danny Gay is from Lynn.

'We're doing everything right. We've got promoted, we're giving value for money, we had a cup run, we're putting 110pc effort in, the supporters are with us so things are looking great for King's Lynn Town Football Club.'

Luis Duarte, Tom McLeish, Jack Johnson and Chris Ward are four others who have had a taste of first-team action this term after impressing for Jonathan Hawes' youthful reserve team. The Peterborough Division One leaders, who thumped Maccasports 6-0 on Saturday, yesterday added 16-year-old former Norwich City Academy player Lewis Gibson to their ranks.

And Hawes admits he's delighted to be nurturing the next generation of what he hopes will become regular first-team players.

He said: 'I'm always very pleased with the young players' involvement with the first team. It's good for their experience and helps with their progression.

'The lads have earned their chance by playing well for me and have had a taste of what it's like with Gary and the first team as a result. And I'm sure they'll continue to work hard in the reserves so they can start becoming involved on a regular basis.

'I'm proud of the young talent at the club and Gary and I are in regular contact about how the lads are doing – which is great too.'
