The Linnets came out on the right side of another five-goal thriller on Tuesday but Gary Setchell admitted his side desperately need to cut out their sloppy errors.

The Lynn manager watched his side gift Brigg an opener – thanks to an embarrassing mix-up between keeper Alex Street and defender Jason Lee –before going further behind courtesy of Liam Davis' stunning strike.

And even though his side stormed back to clinch an exciting win, Setchell insisted they will soon be made to pay for their mistakes properly.

The Lynn boss said: 'We can't keep going on making mistakes and winning games. I said to the lads, 'at this level you can't give two-goal starts', and that's what we did.

'The first goal was calamitous. For me the keeper should have called 'keeper's ball' and caught it inside his box. Jason (Lee) was inside the box when he headed it to Pedro (Street) and I think Pedro just misread the situation.

'It looked awful, it was terrible, but that happens at Premier League level. Then the second-goal was a good strike but we didn't clear the ball properly and there wasn't enough pressure on the ball. If we could cut out the silly goals we give away we would be a really good team. But at the minute we're making we it difficult for ourselves.

'However, at the same time you can't question the character of this team. To come from two goals down at this level is a fairly good effort.'

Setchell said his side gave their worst display since the 4-1 pre-season defeat to Wisbech Town in the opening 35 minutes.

But a Steve Spriggs penalty gave the Linnets hope and second-half strikes from Dan Quigley and a late Jason-Turner penalty wrapped up three points as Setchell's side moved up to second in Evo-Stik Division One South.

'We got a lifeline before half-time with the penalty so we had a re-jig and I reminded the players of their responsibilities,' said Setchell.

'Footballer players are rare animals. They get on a little bit of a run, look at the table and they're third and Brigg are 11th, and they think they've cracked it. I told them when they cross the white line at our ground they need to give 100pc every week.

'But at half-time Russell (Dunkley) came on who is always going to try and have an impact on the game, which he did, and even though we didn't play brilliant football we stuck at it and stuck at it and we wore them down in the end to get a massive three points.'

Lynn travel to Mickleover Sports tomorrow – who drew 1-1 at Newcastle Town in midweek – and should have a full squad to chose from with no injury worries or suspensions.
