Gary Setchell says King's Lynn Town were on the wrong end of a 'bizarre' decision to postpone their first match of the festive period.

Lynn's match against Sheffield FC was just one of scores of games that fell victim to the wet conditions, with Lowestoft Town's Ryman Premier Division game against leaders Margate postponed just half an hour before kick-off. All Thurlow Nunn Premier Division and First Division fixtures were lost, as was the entire Anglian Combination schedule.

Referee Sean Feerick ended Lynn's hopes of their Evo-Stik Division One South match against Sheffield FC going ahead just before 2pm, claiming there was water in the goalmouths and that one of the linesman's 'runs' was too dangerous – leaving Lynn officials and visiting boss Curtis Woodhouse unimpressed: 'If you look at the pitch it is perfectly playable,' said Town boss Setchell. 'The referee has deemed it unsafe for his linesman to run up and down his line. There is a bit of standing water on one of the lines, but I asked him to do a left-hand line and he said he couldn't do it because he would have lost his bearings.

'It's a totally bizarre decision – me and Curtis are both disappointed with the referee's decision, but it looks to me that he wanted the game off before he got here. He didn't really give it a chance. We said we could do everything we needed to do, but he was just saying to us 'you are wasting your time, you are wasting your time'. It was like he didn't want to be here.

'It's disappointing – but it is more disappointing for Sheffield because they have had to travel.'
