King's Lynn Town boss Ian Culverhouse said back in August he wouldn't be worrying about the league table until his team had completed 12 matches.

Only he knows if he has taken a sneaky look before but the view this morning would surely give him a satisfied feeling.

Twelve games played, 28 points accumulated from a possible 36 and a plus 14 goal difference sees his Linnets side sit joint top of the Southern Premier Division with over a quarter of the season complete.

Culverhouse is streetwise and savvy. He regularly insists that it's all about what his team are doing and doesn't take too much notice of what other challengers are brewing up.

However, Town's boss could be excused for raising a smile at an increasing workload beginning to mount for promotion rivals Slough Town, Hereford and Kettering Town due to their FA Cup exploits. With the former two already in the hat for today's first round draw and the latter facing a replay tomorrow evening a continuation of the Linnets' good form could see his team handily placed with the others playing catch up and the prospect of two games a week for an extended period.

Culverhouse though is also a realist and will know that his team must improve following Saturday's scrambled win over a dogged Kings Langley at The Walks.

Early goals from Michael Clunan and Tom Siddons saw Lynn race into a two-goal lead inside 20 minutes. Another large crowd of 903 relaxed, expecting to see an avalanche of goals and the free-flowing football they have become accustomed to this season.

Sadly for them it appeared the relaxed feel spread to their team on the pitch, allowing Calum Adebiyi a back post header just before the break. Siddons restored the two-goal buffer with a tap-in but the visitors refused to surrender tamely and substitute Steve Ward took advantage of some 'after you sir' home defending to make things interesting again. Adebiyi saw red for two yellow cards and was joined late on by Town Substitute Toby Hilliard who collected two needless yellow cards that equalled red.

Grant Holt sat out Saturday's action due to a one match suspension collected whilst playing for Hibernian last season. The Linnets were not told of the suspension by the relevant football associations when completing the player's paperwork last week and will therefore face no action despite him taking to the field during Tuesday's win over Hitchin Town.

Striker Craig Gillies has joined Soham Town Rangers on a month's loan.
