King's Lynn Stars will be looking to build on their fine start to the season when they host the Belle Vue Aces this evening.

Rob Lyon's riders won their first two meetings and picked up a losing bonus point as a result of a narrow 47-42 reverse at Wolverhampton Wolves on Monday. So the Norfolk Arena outfit are in no doubt that they want to extend that points-scoring run when they take on the Elite League's Manchester-based club tonight at Saddlebow Road.

Team boss Lyon said: 'I think it's been promising, very promising so far.

'We enjoyed a great start against Lakeside and had a terrific win at Coventry on Friday before putting in a battling performance at Wolverhampton on Monday night.

'That's three meetings where we've picked up important points. What is most exciting is I think our team is a slow-burner. We will get better. The young riders will come in and play their part even more than they already have.'

The Aces arrive having beaten Leicester Lions on their own shale but suffered defeats at Eastbourne Eagles and Swindon Robins. Jason Attwood's side will include former Star Richie Worrall who impressed on loan at Saddlebow Road last term.

And with Matej Zagar, Scott Nicholls and Craig Cook as heat leaders, Lynn's latest opponents should provide another tough test.

Lyon said: 'We've got to keep our feet on the ground. Winning at home is important as it takes the pressure off when you go away.

'Winning at home is the benchmark to any sort of success. We don't want to spoil any away points by dropping points at home. It's important we focus on Belle Vue, which is going to be a tough match, and look to get all three points.

'A lot of people are happy to say or write that we're title-challengers but we just have to take that with a pinch of salt. We have the riders with the ability but we need a bit of luck and we know there's still a long, long way to go. But I'll admit it is working well so far.'

- Lewis Kerr will compete in the first of two British speedway semi-finals. The 24-year-old, from Heacham, in Norfolk, is one of 16 riders who will be looking to progress from the Sheffield meeting on Thursday, April 24. A fine performance would cap a dazzling 12 months which has seen the rider's reputation on the speedway scene rise to new levels. The Stars' reserve – selected on the Fast Track Draft day – will come up against a number of the UK's biggest stars on the night, including Craig Cook and Grand Prix ace Chris Harris.
