King's Lynn Stars head to Coventry Bees for their first away fixture of 2014 this evening hoping to build on their fine start to the Elite League season.

Rob Lyon's men inflicted Lakeside Hammers' first defeat of the campaign on Wednesday night by recording an impressive 51-39 triumph at Saddlebow Road. Now the Norfolk Arena club will be hoping to build on their three-point total by bringing something home from Brandon.

The Stars were poor on the road last term winning just one meeting and collecting only six losing bonus points. And Lyon knows that his troops have to perform better away from Norfolk this term if they are to have any hopes of finishing in the play-offs.

Lynn's team boss said: 'We'd like to get off to a much better start (on the road). We've got a hectic run in Coventry on Friday, Wolves (away) on Monday, back here against Belle Vue which will be another tough one on Wednesday, and then Birmingham (away) on the Friday.

'I really want to pick up points everywhere away from home. The key this year for me is to keep our home record intact and then pick up points everywhere we go, where possible. Whether that's an away win somewhere, or a point, they all add up at the end of the season and it's always enough if you're consistent to get into that top four.'

Unlike last season, Lynn are able to field a full one-to-seven at Coventry while the hosts will use Berwick Bandits' 27-year-old Dane Claus Vissing as a guest for Brit Kyle Howarth, aged just 20.

The Bees, managed by popular British speedway figure Gary Havelock, will be riding at home for the first time following away fixtures at Swindon Robins and Birmingham Brummies. A 10-point triumph in Wiltshire, in a rain-affected clash, was followed up by Wednesday's loss by two in the Midlands – Birmingham's first win in four attempts this season – which saw the Bees pick up a single point compared to their maxium haul of four against the Robins. Coventry have already matched their away points total for the whole of last season.

Lyon added: 'All seven will be there. Coventry have had a good start. But it's all about what our team does. We're confident we've got the right seven and we'll go from there.'
