King's Lynn joint boss Kevin Boon has confirmed the departure of fringe attacker Billy Smith from the UCL title challengers.

Smith had scored one goal in 23 appearances for the club but had been used mainly as a subsitute since his summer arrival from Wisbech.

'We have released Billy and it is nothing he has done but with Chris (Bacon) coming in its just part of building a squad,' said Boon. 'We've had one or two clubs in touch already and we have passed on his number. Naturally he is very, very disappointed but we've had to let players like Billy, Ross Kelly and Adam Millson go. It's not a nice part of management but we have to do what is right for the football club and to build the strongest squad we can to challenge for things.'

Lynn's scheduled Norfolk Senior Cup fourth round tie at Yarmouth on Tuesday is subject to an early morning pitch inspection with temperatures set to plummet in the east of the county overnight.
