Pelicans chief Sam Major hopes it's a 'Super Sunday' for the King's Lynn hockey club as three of their teams do battle in national competitions.

The girls' under-16s take on Beeston after progressing to the Midlands Regional Pool stage of their event while the boys' under-18s and ladies' masters do battle in quarter-final matches.

Olympian Kath Johnson and her team-mates visit Shropshire-based Bridgnorth in the Women's Masters Plate Over 35s competition. And at Lynnsport, in the under-18s Plate, Pelicans' will be looking to improve on their history-making foray into the last eight by seeing off Alderney Edge.

Major, 21, who plays for Pelicans men's first team and has managed the club's under-18s with the help of Charlie Lankfer for the last two seasons, said: 'We all firmly believe that we can spring another shock by beating another big club like Alderney Edge.

'Our team is made up of some superb individuals with players such as captain and my younger brother Jack, Harry Lankfer, John Lemon, Matt Nolan and Josh Widdowson – who have all consistently performed for the men's first team – as well as other players such as 'keeper Dan Upton-Jillings, Will Lankfer and Josh Kent, who have all had a taste of first-team hockey, will bring big experience in these games.

'We can also count on Hugo Atkins from Wisbech who has been a revelation for us and given us that extra bit of forward thrust and ability. The rest of the lads have all stepped up throughout the games, have got stuck in when it's mattered and haven't looked out of place in what is the strongest boys' team I've seen at Pelicans since I've been associated with them.'

The Lynn outfit exited the Hockey Association (HA) Cup with a 5-2 defeat to Dereham but have powered through to the latter stages of the HA Plate with victories over Spalding and West Herts. Major said: 'I'm hoping our boys can pull together as the excellent team they are and perform in front of a home crowd and get us to the finals' weekend. I also hope we can do our bit on a busy weekend for Pelicans and make it one for our little club to remember.'

Lemon, Toby Hoare, and Jack Yule are all unavailable for Edge's visit.
