Daniel Bloy of the King's Lynn CC scored back-to-back time trial wins at the weekend – in his own club's 25 and, less than 24 hours later, in the Norwich ABC 25, rescheduled after a storm on the original date.

In the Lynn 25 his 55:49 satisfyingly beat his coach, Dave Green (RAFCC) by exactly a minute. The Fincham to Mundford and back course boasts excellent visibility, but this openness lets any wind get at the riders. And the wind was against them on the long leg out to Mundford, Bloy saying: 'It was vicious up that (Whittington) hill and down to Mundford.'

A 30mph return could not compensate. Third spot went to Will Bamber 58:08) who led the VC Norwich to the team win, backed by Neil Vaughan (59:51) Stewart Lyons (1:00:51).

Bloy took the Norwich ABC 25 in 52:56. The A11 course had much in common with the Breckland '12' last week. But there were no records this time – what a difference 70 degrees difference in wind direction made!

'It was dry and the sun shone, but that was about it,' was Guy Stevens' comment on the '25'. The eight mile slog to the finish into the rising ESE breeze slowed everybody down.

Dale Johnson completed an excellent weekend for VC Norwich by taking third place in the Mid-Suffolk Road Race for third and fourth category riders. The 29-year-old Dussindale rider was prominent near the front of the 48 mile race and just lost out in a sprint for second to David Page (Stowmarket). The race had many brief breakaways but with the wind helping riders up the main hill at Willisham Tye, none stayed away until CC Hackney man James Fairbank took off on the last lap and took the win alone.

Best local finisher in the Simon Hook race near Saffron Walden, for higher category men, was Strada Sport's Mark Westrup in 11th. The race was on a short circuit featuring a hill and a 'farm track' leg every lap.

Now is a good time for those inspired by the Olympics to get involved in local cycle sport. For those interested in the most straightforward form of competition – time trialling – most clubs have one or two 'turn-up-and-ride' evening 10 milers before the long summer evenings finish. Look at club websites from the list at http://www.eastdistrictca.org.uk/clubs/ to see what is available near you.

If mass-start racing is your aim, most of these clubs have club runs which are the place to learn the skills of safely riding in very close company that that is the essential skill.

In the Veteran TTA '10' in the Waveney Valley, Peter Balls (West Suffolk Whs, 21:17) was the winner, beating his age standard by 5:09 ahead of Norwich rider Chris Nudds +4:15 (actual 23:36).
