King’s Lynn ace Daniel Bloy wins East District 50 mile Championship
Six riders inside one hour 50 minutes – that was the story of the CC Breckland 50-mile time trial. No less than 18 were inside two hours, so conditions on the Wymondham and Attleborough bypass course cannot have been too bad – though most competitors mentioned the rising wind, which was helpful heading towards Norwich and definitely not so in the opposite direction. Daniel Bloy (King's Lynn CC) took the East District 50 mile Championship with his 1:47:06 ride for second place. The King's Lynn club also had the three-wheeled winner – after a race-long battle Kevin Younge (2:16:01) took the Tricycle Association medal, just 35 seconds faster than Chris Hutchinson (Redbridge CC)
Fastest overall was visitor from Coventry, Grigor Wallace (Team Midland Racing) whose 1:46:02 time represents an average speed of 28.293mph. There were notable first rides at the distance from Sheringham man Charlie Nurse (1:49:49) and James Trenchard (Godric CC) from Bungay (1:56:53). Will Bamber (1:56:43) was fastest rider from the VC Norwich, David Moore (1:59:09) best Norwich amateur and fastest from the Diss CC was Patrick Ellis (2:03:06).
• In the second round of the Eastern Cyclo-Cross League at Chelmsford a break of three riders dominated the Senior race – Hayden Wood, Norwich rider Tim Guy (Iceni Velo) and fast and experienced Junior Sean Dunlea (Ciclos Uno). The three worked together until the last lap when Dunlea got tangled with the tapes marking the course and Guy was caught behind him. So Wood was away for a win by four seconds from Guy with Dunlea coming in 10 seconds later. Visitor Dave McMullen (GWR) again won the Veterans race with Iceni's Phil Buick third after struggling to engage his shoes on the pedals after the dismounts. Among the Toms clan from Swainsthorpe the best result was this week achieved by Dougal Toms, third in the Youth race, where Henry Periam (CC Breckland) was next Norfolk rider, followed by Great Yarmouth CC riders Dan Swindells and Zak Coleman.
• In the Shaftesbury CC road race near Chelmsford a first-lap break stayed clear until the finish. Winner was Paul Fielding (St Ives CC). The bunch was left to race for ninth place and in the sprint the best Norfolk finishers were James Browne (VC Norwich, 12th overall) and Steven Hurrell (Strada Sport, 15th).
• The VC Baracchi has an enter-on-the-line 2-Up team time trial on Sunday 30th September. Those who wish to ride should go to Market Lane in time to be ready for a 9.30am start.
