Delight as Kimberley Morrison secures third victory at Ironman 70.3 Finland
Norfolk triathlete Kimberley Morrison led from start to finish in taking victory at the first edition of Ironman 70.3 Finland in Lahti on Saturday.
The victory adds to her previous Ironman 70.3 successes in Buenos Aires (2016) and Texas (2017) and she will be looking for a fourth victory this weekend when she competes in Ironman 70.3 Jönköping in Sweden.
On Saturday Morrison, from Bale, near Fakenham, led the way from the start, her 28:51 opening swim the fastest of the day, before her bike leg, which she traditionally excels at, allowed her to extend her lead to more than seven minutes at T2, over Minna Koistinen (FIN). Morrison rode 2:19:34, more than five minutes quicker than Koistinen, who was the second quickest on two wheels.
Once on the run, a consistent 1:29:03 half marathon was more than enough to take victory by five minutes over Koistinen.
Asked about the race conditions after the race, she said “It’s been cool, a bit of rain and a little windy – absolutely perfect for a girl from England!”
