Despite a debut week to remember Norwich City's latest young star Chris Martin is targeting more - in particular a place in starting eleven.

Academy trainee Martin made his Canaries debut coming on as a substitute for the final 15 minutes in the 1-0 home defeat to Wolves last Tuesday as City tried in vain to break down the visitors' stubborn defence.

But his second run out as a sub was a much happier experience as he tasted victory as Norwich came from behind in Saturday's crucial success over Leeds United at Carrow Road.

Although he was unable to mark those games with a goal, the 18-year-old's efforts were fully appreciated by the home crowd as he showed some neat touches, plenty of effort and no little potential, which has already seen him bag 10 goals in reserve and youth games.

Now the youngster from Beccles wants to force his way in manager's Peter Grant starting line-up.

“I'm just looking to start any game really, but I'll do whatever the manager asks me to do - whether that's off the bench or starting the game,” Martin said.

“It was quite special for me obviously, everyone's debut it. It was a special moment and I was just happy to get it out of the way with and now I'm looking to get a few more games under my belt.

“Quite a few of the fans are from my area and I've been brought up supporting Norwich as well so that made it a bit more special as well.

“Quite a few of my friends and family have been there and I've been getting plenty of calls and messages wishing me all the best, so it's been nice.”

After moving up to train with the first team in recent weeks, Martin said advice and help from some of City's senior players had been invaluable.

And he singled out Dion Dublin, who is nearly 20 years his senior, as a shining example.

“Yeah, it's great,” he told the Norwich City website. “He's been at the highest level and played at all the top clubs. It's great to have someone of so much experience to help me through.

“Every day I'm learning. It's a different pace to youth team football and what I've been used to for a couple of years now, so I'm just trying to adjust to it but hopefully I can get better and better.

“All the lads are encouraging me well and giving me pointers and I'm just happy to take their advice on board.”
