Winger Jake Jones admits a heart-to-heart with Gary Mills helped convince him to return to King's Lynn Town.

The talented 20-year-old tore up his contract at Conference outfit Tamworth yesterday in order to complete a permanent move to The Walks. He had only returned to the Midlands club a week or so ago after his three-month loan spell at Lynn ended but all it took was a phone call from a friend to secure his Linnets' comeback.

Jones, who will line up alongside Boston United's Mills again now he has become a temporary Lynn player for the second time, said: 'There were just limited opportunities at Tamworth. I sat on the bench and was an unused sub against Halifax.

'I want to be playing and I felt more wanted at King's Lynn. I spoke to Millsy, whose older than me, now he's come back again and he gave me a bit of advice. He said a lad of my age needs to be playing regular football. He told me I didn't want to drift into the background because in the summer I wouldn't have been able to get a club. He was a big influence as he told me how much Setch (boss Gary Setchell) wanted me back.

'I felt towards the end of my loan I was hitting some good form and I want that to carry on. I didn't know whether I was coming or going before but I can settle down now and hopefully perform well and help us push for promotion.'

The former Walsall youngster scored three goals during his 14 appearances in the Evo-Stik Premier Division – two levels below where his former club ply their trade.

A delighted Setchell, who has also added Pete Bore and Mills to his ranks recently, said: 'From me right down to the supporters, Jake was liked when he was here. He's got really quick feet and he's shown already he can cause defenders a lot of problems. Long may that continue.'
