Ian Culverhouse insists minds my be focused on the bread and butter of league football rather than the glamour of the FA Cup.

The Linnets boss has seen his side go unbeaten in five league outings and one FA Cup tie – which earned them a trip to Nuneaton Town next weekend.

However, Culverhouse says it's a case of first things first – and that means Saturday's home game against Stratford Town.

Lynn are third in the table, two points behind Banbury and Kettering, who protect 100pc records at home to Frome and away to Weymouth respectively. It means a win coupled with some favourable results could take Lynn top.

The cup, as far as Culverhouse is concerned, can wait.

'I have seen and heard all the talk of the FA Cup, but before all of that we have Stratford on Saturday and let's not forget another league game next week (at Royston on Tuesday).

'The squad, to be fair to them, are focused only on the next game and that's the way it has to be.

'Stratford will present us with another strong test and we will find out where we are on our road of progression to where we want to be.'

Culverhouse has welcomed the benefit of a free week.

'It has, from my point of view, been good to have a clear last week,' he told the club's official website. 'We have trained very well and discussed and put into practice some different things I want to try out.

'It's also given a chance for some of the knocks to be rested and to get the energy levels back up – the game at St Ives and then again last weekend were played in some very warm, sapping conditions.'

He added: 'We need to continue with the start we have made to maintain our good position, The supporters have been fantastic to us recently and between the team and the crowd I would really like to make The Walks a fortress for the season ahead.

'We have a long way to go and the season is still very young but we have already made some positive steps which I am very keen to see us continue.'

Stratford and 11th in the table and go into the game on the back of a 4-0 FA Cup win over Newcastle Town – although they have drawn their last four league games.
