Norfolk's wheelchair tennis star Alfie Hewett will face Nicolas Peifer of France in the singles quarter-finals at Wimbledon tomorrow.
The 19-year-old is looking to follow up his first grand slam singles title win, at the French Open last month, with success on home soil. He starts against Frenchman Peifer, ranked one higher than Hewett in the world rankings at number five.
The singles were played at the All England Club for the first time last year, with Hewett beaten in the quarter-finals, but the former City College Norwich student is also looking to defend the doubles title won alongside British number one Gordon Reid. They will take on Gustavo Fernandez of Argentina and Shingo Kunieda of Japan in the doubles semi-final on Friday.
Ahead of the action Hewett, from Cantley, near Acle, has won the International Paralympic Committee's Allianz Athlete of the Month award for his success in Paris, claiming 49 per cent of the public vote.
