It's strange. We're in May, but it feels like the speedway season hasn't started yet. The campaign just won't get going because of all these rain-offs, especially in England.

Up until this week we have had six meetings away and just two at home, only one of which was successful. Losing to Peterborough here was so disappointing and our lack of meetings on our own track has added a bit of pressure on us.

We want to win every meeting, especially at home, and race at King's Lynn most Wednesdays. It's been so frustrating.

You plan your diary three weeks ahead to organise all your meetings, flights and everything so it's a nightmare – especially when you travel to the country before a match gets called off.

A prime example is when we should have raced Coventry at the Norfolk Arena on May 9. We all flew in, got our bikes ready, got our racing heads on and then it belted down with rain.

If you're at home the night before with your missus and having an early night then it's a little easier, but you get all ready to ride, spend that money to travel, and then it rains. It's so hard to take.

You get pumped up for the meeting so you then have to take your aggression out somehow, which is why I usually go for a good run or a big gym session.

Getting a good night's sleep was a little bonus as I usually only get three to four hours sleep after a meeting at Lynn because I'm up at 6am to fly out to race in Sweden.

That's part of the job though, but the one person I feel sorry for is Buster (Chapman) who worked so hard to get the meeting on, did a great job, and then had to watch as it got called off.

I was just really pleased to guest for Eastbourne on Monday, so I could actually get some track time in England. I ride with a few of their guys for Rospiggarna in Sweden so I enjoyed it and got a decent 10 points.

It's the best track I've raced on at Belle Vue too, which can be a funny place to ride, but it was really smooth and it was nice to get out there.

It's one of the reasons why I feel we haven't found our feet yet this season because we haven't raced enough. There's been some team changes, but we haven't been able to get the guys gelling, which is a big job of mine as captain.

We've got a cool-looking team now with Kevin Wolbert at reserve, which has boosted him, and Joe Screen arriving. He's so experienced and like a gift from heaven. We just need some home meetings now.

Finally, I'm really proud to be captain of such a good bunch for a club like Lynn this season, and have the chance to write this column. I'm also pleased to see Lynn FC have got promoted because I think it's good for the town and I love football.

I joked to Buster that I'll sign for them too – but he said I'll get sent off too many times because I love taking people out!
