Seven days of intense sailing competition culminated in the prestigious Diamond Jubilee Gold Challenge Cup race for mixed one designs at Wroxham Week.
More than 30 Yare and Bure one designs and three Broads One Designs came to the start line in a good southerly breeze, watched by close to 100 spectators.
In the event, it was all about the minor placings as Ian Tims in Scarlet Admiral produced a perfect start followed by a masterclass of sailing to build a substantial lead after the first of four rounds crewed by daughter Laura and Pete Reeve, and was never threatened. The following pack was consistently led by Chris Bunn who resisted challenges from Matt Ellis and Paul Carrington and these filled the next three places.
Putting in a good performance was Henry Harston in the first BOD who finished fifth and had hoped for more wind.
Earlier in the week the main cruiser series was won by David Bye's Meggie in the fast fleet, and by Anthony Landamore's Matilda in the slower fleet after a close battle with Geoff Angell's Pippa.
In the morning junior Oppies, Jago Bucher just edged out George Davis, whilst Tom Thwaites-Cole took the afternoon series. Michael Collins convincingly won the Norfolk dinghies as did Sam Woodcock in his Solo in the afternoon allcomers dinghies.
In the keelboats allcomers series, Paul Carrington's YBOD won from Paul Barker's Yeoman which was also just edged into second place in the Yeoman series by Bill and Diana Webber in Swift.
Sam Woodcock took the morning BOD series which had been wide open until the later races, and Ian Tims won the YBOD series without needing to contest the final race.
The shorter late afternoon keelboat race series were hotly contested with Jenny Riley winning the BOD series after a battle with Danny Tyrell. Ritchie Dugdale won the YBOD series despite losing the last race to Chris Bunn, and Gary Ross had an easier time winning the Yeoman series with a race to spare.
The final races of each day involved the river cruisers with Nick Hovey in Moonshadow winning the fast fleet from Tim Frary in Stellar, and Chris Tuckett in Amaryllis narrowly winning the slower fleet.
