An impressive 800 entries were taken for the race, which is part of the Sportlink Grand Prix Series 2018 and also incorporated the Athletics Norfolk 10K Championships.

On a hot and humid Sunday morning, the quiet villages of Freethorpe, Limpenhoe and Reedham were invaded by a mass of runners for the race, which is organised by Great Yarmouth & District Athletic Club (GYDAC).

The number of entries has increased considerably in what is regarded by many as one of the friendliest races on the Norfolk circuit.

The men's race was won by Ash Harrell from City of Norwich AC (CONAC), a previous winner who broke the course record to finish in 31:50. He received a winners cheque for £100 and a £50 course record bonus.

He was followed by Kevin Holland, Crawley AC, recording a time of 33:11 and a cheque for £75 and third was James O'Neill from Ryston Runners in a time of 33:52 as he also received a cheque for £50.

The Ladies race was won by CONAC's Dani Nimmock, who also broke the course record, in a time of 35:15 as she also received a cheque for £100 and a £50 course bonus. Second was clubmate Eleanor Grubb in a time of 38:11 and third was another CONAC runner Emma Risbey in a time of 38:45. Tthe ladies also received cheques identical to the men.

The race included 150 finishers from Norwich Road Runners, in tribute to Sze-Ming Cheung, who recently died in a tragic accident. They all wore light blue ribbons as a tribute to him. Alex Bland his partner of 23 years was the race starter.

The race was sponsored by local brewery, Humpty Dumpty, who supplied all finishers with a goody bag including a commemorative buff and a medal.

Lesley George and her partners were also extremely busy back at the brewery with tours.

Thanks must be given to all the runners who participated and to GYDAC members who helped. They were assisted by marshals from various other Norfolk clubs, without their help this race is not possible.

Freethorpe First Responders and Freethorpe Scout/Cub Group organised the two water Stations whilst Freethorpe Village Hall provided excellent facilities as the race's HQ. Thanks must be given for Humpty Dumpty Brewery for their continued sponsorship of the event.
