A rather dull and dreary September weekend was a rather special one for Horning Sailing Club.

Not least because the club celebrated its 80th anniversary with a huge party at Horning Village Hall, with some 130 members, past and present attending.

Meanwhile, the less-than-favourable forecast had an impact on the weekend's sailing. Open Dinghy Weekend was held on Hoveton Little Broad on Saturday afternoon and the River Bure on Sunday. Although cold, Saturday saw a decent breeze which was enjoyed by competitors. Jack Copping and Thomas Wildman made it two wins in the Enterprises sailing Timshell, whilst Noah Smith and Hamish Harmer took a win each in the Allcomers C fleet, both sailing Toppers. The Allcomers B fleet races were won by James Galloway sailing his Laser and Louis Parkerson sailing his Splash respectively, in a mixed fleet of Lasers, Splashes and a Fireball.

Sunday was forecast to have much stronger winds, which did not materialise until the final race, with the remainder of the day damp and overcast. After a postponement, the morning's races got underway on the river. Three wins in three races were enough to secure the Woodcock Salver event for Toby Pearce and Jack Barnham sailing a Club Enterprise. At the end of the day Hamish Harmer and Abigail Penny were tied on points for the top of the Allcomers C fleet, whilst James Galloway was the clear winner in Allcomers B with a further two wins.

At Waveney & Oulton Broad Yacht Club, there was a series of races for junior sailors, with 11 taking part. The youngest was 6sixyear-old Isaac Thomas, racing for the first time by himself, who completed all three of his races, sailing a club Optimist.

In the fleet of experienced racers, George Madin in his RS Tera Pro was overall winner of the Frithvale Shield, with two firsts and a fourth, but the results were extremely close – on handicap, Felix Cripps in a Topper was only a second behind him in one of the races. Felix was second overall and third place went to Thomas Betts in a Laser 4.7 who won the final race.
