Yesterday's Horning Regatta action began flat calm and extremely warm – providing frustrating sailing all round, particularly during the morning races.

With the line run by Norfolk Broads Yacht Club, the first race was postponed in the hope of a little more breeze, which duly arrived, and was enough to just push the dinghies around the course, although the conditions resulted in several retirements.

In the morning Allcomers B Race, following a port and starboard incident, James Galloway ripped his sail after becoming hooked on Jo Moore's Splash, both taking several spins into the reeds in the process of becoming disentangled. But he recovered well to gain second place behind Matt Ellis, also sailing a Laser. Winners of the remaining races of the day were split between Ellis and Moore. In the lunchtime Mixed One Designs race half of the competitors sailed the wrong course, only a few managing to complete the race.

The Rebels lived up to their name with the whole fleet sailing to the Broad for a picnic during their afternoon race! The morning Rebel race was won by Colin Facey.

At the start of the lunchtime Cruiser race, the anenometer in the clubhouse read 0mph, and being over the line at the start proved a costly mistake for some helms. However, strong performances came from Pip Roney sailing Vixen, John Holden in Reflection and Adrian Lincoln in Pixie, who were first, second and third in both Cruiser races respectively.

By the evening the weather had become overcast with diminishing winds and thunderstorms threatening. The Junior Trophy was raced for in a variety of boats from Rebels to Toppers. The Rebels of Anna Bunn and Alex Storey were neck and neck coming up to the finish, but it was Storey who took the line honours.

The Braithewaite Cup for Services/ex-Services personnel was also very close, Ron Jackson, sailing YBOD Holly Blue, winning by 11 seconds over Jane Varcoe in Yeoman Thistle Doo.
