Holt secured a place in the final of the Norfolk Intermediate Cup with a reasonably comfortable win over a solid and determined Crusaders team.
Holt had the measure of their visitors for most of the game and ran in seven tries.
But Crusaders played their part in an entertaining game, with their strong pack testing the home forwards in the set-pieces and broken play.
Holt got off to a good start, with right wing Henry Flower touching down within the first five minutes for an unconverted try. Crusaders levelled the score almost immediately with a try by Jamie Dack.
Home hooker Kyle Routley had an influential game with his accurate throw-ins, taking several strikes against the head and his support play produced Holt’s third try which was converted by Ollie Jaggard.
Holt continued to press their visitors and tries followed from Jaggard and Ollie Denton, only one of which was successfully converted by Jaggard, increasing the score to 26-5.
Crusaders’ No 9 Rob Loone touched down to reduce the deficit to 26-10 before Holt’s captain Ashley Woods put away Jaggard for his second try which the impressive young fly-half converted for a 33-10 half-time advantage.
The second half was a stop-start affair due to several injuries and a string of penalties.
Holt did not help themselves with two yellow cards but managed to have the upper hand for most of the time. Wing-forward Henry Harrison supported a break by Tom Goose for Holt’s next try, taking the score out to 38-10.
Crusaders did not give up and were rewarded with two late tries for Greg Thurston and Sean Paterson that sandwiched Holt’s seventh and final try by Aaron Tagg which was not converted.
The Norfolk Brewhouse man of the match for Holt was Robbie Gray.
Holt will have to wait to see who they play in the final with North Walsham Raiders playing host to the winners of the between West Norfolk and Norwich Medics in the other semi-final.
