A good result, with perhaps a not so good performance, was the shared view of Holt coaches Penny Chapman and Ed Steed as they looked back on their side's 15-8 victory over Enfield Ignatians, with poor weather conditions and ill-discipline on the part of the home side adversely affecting their flow and continuity.

'They had a large, mobile pack similar to ours and whilst we had the upper hand in the scrum, at the breakdown we weren't getting it all our own way, which you have to commend Enfield for,' said Steed.

'Unfortunately this resulted in us giving away a number of silly and needless penalties. This lack of discipline, particularly at times in the game when we had the upper hand, cost us dearly as we could have gone on to secure a more convincing victory and possibly the bonus point, which I think most observers would have said would have been a fair reflection on the game. It's a pity because the boys' discipline has been so much better in recent games but they just slipped back in to old habits that I thought we'd eradicated.'

With no game tomorrow Holt have been celebrating off the field, with their 51st annual club dinner, held at Pinewood Park Leisure Centre in Bodham. At this, the club were presented with the RFU Accreditation by RFU Senior Vice President Bob Reeves.

'The club are very proud to be presented with this award,' said club chairman Richard Seaman. 'A lot of hard work has gone into this, with special thanks going to Ben Jones and treasurer, David Hitcham. We are also grateful to RFU Rugby Development Officer for Eastern Counties, Penny Chapman, who advised us during the process and helped us implement an action plan to achieve it.'

The chairman was himself the recipient of an award, being presented with the Chum Preston Trophy for club man of the year.

President of the club, Iain MacBrayne said: 'Richard has been the chairman for the past four seasons, for what has been an unprecedented period of success both on and off the field for the club.

His period of tenure has not only seen back to back promotions, with the side currently sitting fourth in London 2 NE, but off the field the club has just celebrated its golden jubilee year, which culminated in our summer ball.

'Such success and planning involves much hard work by a dedicated team but also requires leadership and direction and it is this that Richard has so clearly provided. This award is not only for Richard but is also for his wife, Sue, who provides him with so much support in the role.'

Coach Penny Chapman added: 'All a coach can ask for from their chairman is to be supported and Richard has provided me and Ed that in spades. While the boys have delivered the goods on the field over the last couple of seasons, Richard's contribution to this success can not be over emphasised'.
