Holt bounced back from their opening day defeat at Ipswich in superb style on Saturday when they notched up a half century of points against Stowmarket – with 45 of them coming in first half.

From the start Holt made incisive drives up the centre of the field and were awarded a scrum close to the Stowmarket try line.

From the base of a scrum Bruce van Poortvliet picked and ran in the first try, which was converted.

Following the re-start Holt again drove up the centre and Tom Jackson was eventually brought down near the try line.

Although the ball was turned over, Stowmarket – who beat Norwich in their opener – failed to clear their lines, giving Holt an attacking scrum from where Woods drove over for a converted try to make it 14-0 after eight minutes.

Half way through the first half Jarry-Ryan broke through the mid-field and offloaded to Jackson who, in turn, passed to Woods who, running a superb line, scored Holt's third converted try of the afternoon.

From the re-start Rumsby gathered the ball and kicked it wide, only for Stowmarket to return the ball to the midfield where the Holt backs passed the ball out wide for Woods to score his hat-trick which went unconverted. As the players congratulated Woods, in the air above a lone Spitfire, taking part in the Sheringham 1940s weekend, provided a thrilling spectacle with a low fly-past.

Holt now began to go through the gears and with 10 minutes left in the half Cole made a run down the blind side. From the resulting breakdown Bruce van Poortvliet passed out to Simmons who side-stepped three players before off loading to Hill for another converted try.

As the half drew to a close Holt again passed the ball out to the right and then sent it back left through all the backs where Jake van Poortvliet passed the ball to Riley to score an unconverted try in the corner.

Almost immediately after the re-start Holt had a scrum on the halfway line. Bruce van Poortvliet picked up from the base and ran at the line before passing to Rumsby to score another converted Holt try.

Stowmarket drove up field and scored a try of their own to make it 45-5 at half-time.

The second half saw Holt make changes to their personnel which disrupted their pattern. Stowmarket also raised their game, resulted in several unforced errors from the hosts.

With the clock ticking down Riley made a break off Mears who then fed Jackson up the middle before passing the ball to Simmons to score the final try of the game out wide which went unconverted.

Following on from last week's result Holt will be mighty pleased to get a win under their belt.

Indeed Holt won across the board with the seconds beating Watton at home and the thirds beating their counterparts away in Wisbech.

Holt continue their league campaign on Saturday as they travel to Lowestoft & Yarmouth.
